Who We Are
UCISA members take great pride in the friendly, encouraging atmosphere which makes UCISA unique. Activities include dozens of sailing events all year such as: LidoFest, beach bonfires, barbeques, night sailing on the bay, scavenger hunts, whale watching cruises, lots of racing and fun! Affordable and convenient, the University fleets are just 15 minutes from campus at the Intercollegiate Sailbase in Newport Beach.
Membership and written rating tests are available at Campus Recreation Services (upstairs at the ARC), Monday-Friday from 8am to 6pm. Tel: 949-824-3738 You don't need any experience to join as crew, but taking classes helps! Skipper membership provides personal access to the Capri and J22fleets. See the rating checklists for details on how to pass the rating tests. Rating tests are taken independently of classes and start with Capri, then move up to J22 1 (harbor), J22 2 (ocean/spinnaker) and J22 3 (keelboat racing).
Eligibility: age 18 & over, full time UCI students, faculty, staff, alumni with a degree from UCI or any other UC, and spouses of the above, are eligible for UCISA membership. A University waiver and verification of swimming proficiency must be signed upon joining. Learn to sail, pass the skipper rating tests and take your friends sailing!
Members are able to join in on races and refine their experience on everything from sailing basics to advanced techniques. UCI Boat use is subject to all Sailing Program Rules. Sailing classes are offered through Campus Recreation. Weekday and weekend classes range from beginning to advanced in Capri 14's, FJ's and J22(keelboats). Classes are designed to help you get your skipper ratings.
UCISA members promote sailing at UCI, help with routine maintenance of the UCI fleets, participate on community outreach hosted events and work to boost awareness of the Intercollegiate Sailing Team. Monthly meetings are open to all members and anyone interested in joining. See the Calendar page and join the mailing lists for news.
